Rules For A COSO Group's Association With A National Organization

Throughout the relationship between a national organization and a Dartmouth College (hereinafter "Dartmouth") COSO organization Dartmouth's policies and procedures will prevail. When COSO considers the possibility of a formal relationship between a national and one of its organizations, particular attention will be paid to the following:

  • Dispersal of funds - funds supplied by Dartmouth cannot be used for the purpose of influencing political change or for use by any organizations other than 501c3's. Funds supplied by student members of the Dartmouth chapter of an organization face identical limitations, as the funds will be administered through a Dartmouth account. (Since no outside accounts are allowed there is no way around this restriction.)
  • Insurance/liability - under no circumstances will Dartmouth be liable for the actions, errors, or omissions of the national organization. Dartmouth will not provide insurance for the national organization. The "Trustees of Dartmouth College" (our corporate name) should be named as additionally insured on a certificate of insurance provided by the national organization.
  • Control and power - COSO will carefully review any agreements made between the national and the Dartmouth organization to be certain that control and power in the Dartmouth organization rests firmly in the hands of Dartmouth undergraduate members.
  • Equal opportunity - all COSO constitutions are required to have equal opportunity statements and to be open and accessible to all students. No Dartmouth COSO organization will be allowed to have a formal association with any organization that is less open than is required at Dartmouth. Dartmouth does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or status as a disabled or Vietnam era veteran in its programs, organizations, and conditions of employment and admission.
  • Proprietary information - in no instance shall association with Dartmouth, or one of its organizations, constitute an agreement to provide an outside organization with proprietary Dartmouth information such as mailing lists or names of students.

These Guidelines shall govern the relationship between Dartmouth COSO organizations and national organizations unless otherwise agreed by all parties concerned.
