What is Rush?
A few weeks into the start of term, the brothers at each fraternity hold an open house in order to meet with students interested in joining their brotherhood. Rushees circulate among the fraternities to chat with the brothers and introduce themselves to any they don't know. In order to be considered for membership at a particular house, you must sign the house rush book before the end of the evening. You also have the option of shaking out at one particular fraternity, indicating that it is your top choice. At ΣAE, rush provides a great way for you to meet the entire brotherhood and learn more about the house. Rush is also an important way for us to get to know you in order to decide if you are a good fit for our house.
At the end of each night, the brotherhood decides which rushees will get bids, no bids, or callbacks. A bid is a formal invitation to join the fraternity which can be accepted by signing, or sinking, the bid. Rushees have several days after Rush during which they can sink their bid. A callback signifies that the brotherhood has not yet made a decision about whether to extend a bid and wishes to learn more about the rushee. The Rushee is encouraged to come back the next night so that the brothers can get to know him better. A no bid indicates that the brotherhood has decided that the rushee is not a good fit for the house.
Rush typically takes place over one weekend at the start of each term. The date and time of rush are determined by the Inter-fraternity Council and blitzed out at the beginning of the term. To be eligible for rush, a student will have completed at least three terms and be in good academic standing with the College. In order to rush ΣAE, students must not be affiliated with another house. Rush ΣAEΣAE holds rush during the fall and winter terms. While some students must rush during the winter due to conflicting D-Plans, most people rush during the fall term and we encourage you to do so. ΣAE hosts rush events throughout the year which are a great way to meet brothers and get to know the house. If you are interested in rushing ΣAE feel free to come by the house, play a game of pong, and hang out with the brothers. Let us know that you are considering rushing the house and we will put you on our rush list to keep you up to date on our various rush events. If you have any specific questions about ΣAE or the rush process please contact our Rush Chairmen (See Officers page). For more information please visit: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~ifc/ |
