Explanation of fields and codes

Author of each document; in this case it is wholly corporate authors.

Title: the Region/Division/Subdivision, as applicable. (I have been very careful to distinguish each author and title name, and indicate changes, an approach I hope will be continued by anyone sending update information).

Geographic coverage of the contents, listing each timetable segment with end points.

Timetable number, noting supplements, identifiable reprints, and variant editions.

Date of issue.

Pages. I depart from standard bibliographic practice by listing all pages, whether bearing content or blank. Pages not having printed numbers are totaled in brackets [ ]. However, pieces identified as single sheets [hoja] count as only one page.

Height of the document, to next larger 5mm.

Width (depth) of the document, to next larger 5mm.

Description of the cover design.

Maps (and dates of the map information, if known), and certain other special features included in the document (see codes below).

Notes: e.g., changes among consecutive documents in the same series, details of reprinting, elaboration of map coverage, etc.

Collection(s) holding the material cited.

Predecessor and successor companies are noted, as determined by the representation of the routes in the timetables and is not a true or complete corporate history. Progression of some small line segments may not be indicated.

Definition of reprints: this refers to new press runs, not facsimile reprinting. Minor differences may result, especially in size (this inventory always indicates the largest found) and color of cover paper. In general, this inventory does not distinguish reprints unless they are identified as such on the document, or result in conspicuous differences in content while continuing the same issue number.
