NATIONAL GUARD & RESERVE SCHOLARSHIPS

If you are an enlisted soldier in the Army Reserve or National Guard a Guaranteed Reserve Forces or Dedicated Army National Guard Scholarship may be the best option for you. As a National Guard or Reserve Soldier attending Dartmouth College or one of our partnership schools, you can participate in the simultaneous membership program. This program will allow you to earn your commission through ROTC and continue drilling with your unit. Upon graduation you will then continue to serve in the National Guard and Reserve components of the Army. This is a great opportunity for any Reservist who would like to become an officer.

Dedicated National Guard Scholarship
There is no limit to the number of scholarships given out each year in every State and U.S. territory. This scholarship covers the full tuition. Recipients also receive up to $1,200 for books and are paid a monthly allowance ($350 during sophomore year, $400 during junior year, and $500 during senior year). Graduate students can also apply if they have only two years remaining until they graduate.

In addition to a monthly allowance, Soldiers can also receive the drill pay of a Sergeant, approximately $288 per month, when participating in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP).

 

Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD)
This scholarship is similar to the DEDNG scholarship, but is mainly for students entering their junior year of college with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Soldiers also must join the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) of a Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Unit on their campus. GRFD recipients are funded each year at full tuition and receive $1,200 for books. Soldiers are given an ROTC allowance for 10 months of the year ($400 per month during their junior year and $500 per month during their senior year). As a member of the Guard, Soldiers also receive drill pay.

In addition to a monthly allowance, Soldiers can also receive the drill pay of a Sergeant, approximately $288 per month, when participating in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP).

 

In order to receive a either a Dedicated National Guard Scholarship or Guaranteed Reserve Forces Scholarship you must meet the following requirements:
Be a full time student, with 4 semesters or 6 quarter terms remaining
Have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA
Be recommended by the Professor of Military Science
Be a United States citizen
Meet required medical and physical fitness standards
