Frequently Asked Questions
What sort of time commitment is ROTC at Dartmouth?

A 3 Hour Military Lab each week. This is our "hands on" training. Mil Labs consist of going to rifle range to practice Marksmanship, preforming mock missions with paintball equipment, and learning various skills such as knot ties and buddy carries.

A 1 Hour Classroom Session each week. Here you'll start at the basic customs and courtesies of the army and move through to basic squad-size unit tactics and army leadership.

1 Hour PT, three times a week. Not only will you do basic physical training, but we also engage in other team-building activities. This is also a time to review and practice the skills learned in the classroom and in the Mil lab.

Can I just come out to a "Mil Lab" or class just to see what its like?

Of course! Blitz "DartmouthROTC" to get in touch with Chris Koppel '09 (Chris.Koppel@dartmouth.edu)and he'll answer any questions and let you know when you should come by.

How long do I have to "try it out" before I need to commitment?

You do not need to contract with the army until your Junior year. If you would like to recieve a scholarship, however, you must commit and contract with the army. 4 Year Scholarship winners may back out of their contract until the end of their first year.
