Military Service Obligation

Army ROTC students who either receive an  Army ROTC Scholarship or enter the Army ROTC Advanced Course must agree to accept a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant at the completion of their training and complete an Initial Entry Military Service Obligation.

All Initial Entry members of the Armed Forces are required to complete an Initial Military Service Obligation of 8 years and must serve a portion of this commitment in an active member status.

Cadets choose to complete the active portion of their Military Service Obligation either "full time" for a minimum period of 3 years on Active Duty or "part time" for a minimum period of 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard while pursuing a civilian career.

Scholarship Recipients increase their minimum Active Duty option to 4 years, Reserve options remain the same.

Any remaining service obligation may be expended either by remaining on Active Duty, in the Army Reserve, Army National Guard, or Individual Ready Reserve.
