Were and are the tailings piles and surface water runoff from the Joe Mann Mine (JMM), Campbell Point Mine (CPM) and the Copper Rand Mine (CRM) negatively impacting the sediment, surface water and fish ecosystem of the area and as a result are they negatively impacting the human health of the Oujé-Bougoumou Crees? The investigation was comprised of collecting sixteen mine tailings and sediment samples, thirteen surface water samples and ten fish samples for analysis of heavy metals by United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Priority Pollutant 13 Metals, as well as collecting human head hair samples for analysis of toxic elements. The data was compared to applicable guideline levels available in the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment Canadian Environmental Quality Guidelines (CEQG) and Interim Sediment Quality Guidelines (ISQG) and recommendations were made based on the analytical results.
