WHY
THIS SITE IS HERE
The Rural Health @ DMS webpage was
designed to help medical students and others interested in rural health
care access information and resources on the internet. Not only is this
a great place to find rural medicine links, but we hope to update the page
monthly with announcements about rural health activities at Dartmouth Medical
School, and hot rural topics for discussion. If you have any suggestions
for this site, please contact the Rural Health Interest Group.
Other RHIG activities have included the creation of this website, and a presentation by Dr. Steve Generaux, a family practitioner who shared his slides and experiences from a stint in Bethel, Alaska. Our next meeting will be a panel discussion on the topic of Domestic Violence in Rural Areas, 6pm at DHMC, Aud. G. We hope to tease out some ideas for addressing this important issue and learn some skills that may help us better meet the needs of our rural patients.
Coming
Up (updated 3/20/99)

The Rural
Health Scholars Program
Rural Health Scholars is a program of the Department
of Community & Family Medicine at DMS. The goal of the program is to
prepare medical students as leaders in providing medical care to rural
and underserved populations.Approximately a dozen Scholars participate
in bi-monthly dinner seminars. These seminars are designed to introduce
students to local rural health workers, help students gain an understanding
of rural medicine, and to create connections between DMS students, faculty
and community rural health practictioners. Scholars also attend an annual
meeting of the National Rural Health Association and the Dartmouth COOP.
For more information about the program, or to apply
to be a Scholar, contact Susan Linsey, at 650-1208 or 650-1155.
