Dr Jolyon Mitchell is senior lecturer in Communication, Theology and Ethics
at New College, Edinburgh University. Educated at Cambridge, Durham, and
Edinburgh Universities, Jolyon Mitchell worked as a producer and journalist for
BBC World Service and BBC Radio 4 before he was appointed to a lectureship at
Edinburgh University. Dr Mitchell is author of Media Violence and Christian
Ethics(Cambridge University Press, 2007); Visually Speaking
(Edinburgh: T&T Clark, 1999); co-editor of The Religion and Film
Reader (London and New York: Routledge, 2007); Mediating Religion
(London: Continuum, 2003); and Routledge's Monograph series on Media,
Religion and Culture. He is also author of numerous other book chapters
and articles in these rapidly evolving fields of study. He was one of the
consulting editors for the Encyclopedia of Religion, Communication, and
Media (New York: Routledge, 2006), and guest editor for Studies in
World Christianity: the Edinburgh Review of Theology and Religion special
issues on 'Christianity and Television' (2005), ‘Online Religion' (2007) and
‘Peacemaking in the World of Film’ (2008).
