Lisa Karnan

Lecturer in Religion


Lisa Karnan specializes in the New Testament (including the missiological methods of Paul), the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the Gnostic Nag Hammadi Library as well as the Gospel of Judas. After studying Religion at Earlham College (B.A. 1995), she did her graduate work at Claremont Graduate University, where she earned her M.A. (2003) and Ph.D. (2009) in Religion (New Testament). She has a knowledge of Biblical Aramaic, Coptic, Biblical Hebrew, Classical and Koine Greek, Latin, Syriac, and Classical Arabic, and has just completed a book on the Gnostic call from its Biblical origins through the Nag Hammadi Library. She has most recently taught at the University of New England.
