Course Election Reference Guide: Writing 5 and First-Year Seminars

How to Elect a Writing 5 Section or a First-Year Seminar

Step 1 – Log into DartHub

Step 2 - Choose your preferred Writing 5 section or First-Year Seminar from the Registration Timetable and add to your schedule. The Registration Timetable will display the following reminders that you must elect these courses:

Writing 5 Required
Reminder message appears at the top of the Timetable.

Writing Pre-Selected
Writing pre-selected in the Subject section, so that Writing courses appear in each search you perform
FYS Checkbox
First-Year Seminar pre-selected in the Subject section, so that FYS courses appear in each search you perform.

Step 3 – Elect your other courses for the term from the Registration Timetable to build the rest of your schedule

Step 4 – Wait until the course election priority processing period ends, and then check your schedule to see if you gained entry.

Step 5 – If you did not gain entry into your first preferred section or course, you may make a change into a second choice on a space available basis by adding the course during both the course changes and add/drop periods.  You may, of course, make other schedule adjustments as well during these periods. Please refer to the registration schedule for term-specific times.

 

Please note that all Writing 5 sections and First-Year Seminars have an enrollment cap of 16 which the Institute for Writing and Rhetoric strictly enforces, therefore Writing 5 sections and seminars are not eligible for enrollment overrides.  If you have any questions about Writing 5 or First-Year Seminars, please contact the Institute for Writing and Rhetoric.
