Privacy and Online Course Assessment

Are my ratings and comments confidential?

  • Yes, everything on the form is confidential and anonymous. While results are stored in a database, they are not stored with a unique identifier, therefore there is no way to trace the responses on a form to an individual. As such, we cannot retrieve your form for you and you cannot re-submit an assessment. Instructors may see individual forms completed for their class without any identifying information. Results are stored in the college database and are subject to the same level of security as all student records.

Will students be able to see any of the assessment results?

  • Faculty have voted that students may view the results to certain course assessment questions, as well as 3 student-initiated questions that were submitted by Student Assembly. This is for courses where individual faculty have decided to “opt in” to student viewing.  We expect that this student view and new student-initiated questions will become available at the end of summer term 2015.

Who can see the completed course assessments?

  • Instructors officially assigned to teach a course have access to the assessment results for that course if five or more students are enrolled in the course. Appropriate Department/Program Chairs and Academic Deans have access to aggregated results for their respective departments/programs. See https://www.dartmouth.edu/reg/docs/course_assessment_report_view_chart.pdf for a quick, easy chart on “who can see what?”

Will my professor see my course assessment before he or she submits my grades?

  • No, professors only see the assessments after they have submitted all grades to the Registrar’s Office.
