2019-2020 Comprehensive Evaluation

Dartmouth's next Comprehensive Evaluation by The Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) will take place during the 2019-2020 academic year. Our last Comprehensive Evaluation was in 2010 and our last interim report was in 2015.

The Comprehensive Evaluation has three primary components: 1) Institutional self-study, 2) Evaluation Team Visit, and 3) Review and decision by NEASC.

Institutional Self-Study

The self-study is a written narrative where Dartmouth reflects on how well we currently meet the Commission's Standards for Accreditation and makes realistic and specific projections for improvement. An Implementation Group comprised of faculty and administrators is responsible for drafting the narrative and engaging community members through the process.

The campus community will have the opportunity to review and comment on a draft of the self-study in late 2018. The final draft of the self-study will be submitted to NEASC in August 2019 and will also be shared with the campus at that time.

Evaluation Team Visit

A team of faculty and administrators from peer institutions will be selected by NEASC to conduct an on-campus evaluation. Their visit is scheduled for October 27-30, 2019. The team provides an external perspective on our self-study and how well we're meeting the Standards for Accreditation in light of our mission.

Review and Decision by NEASC

NEASC will review our self-study and the evaluation team's final report and hold a meeting with Dartmouth leadership. This meeting, and the subsequent decision from NEASC, is expected to occur in late winter or spring of 2020.
