In Preparation for the NEASC Visit
October 24-27, 1999
This committee is charged with conducting a focused self-study as part of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accreditation review of Dartmouth College scheduled for October 24-27, 1999. The committee is charged with examining the computing and information environment at Dartmouth.
Among the key issues that the committee should consider are:
- What is the status of the academic computing and the information service environment at Dartmouth?
- Dartmouth has been a pioneer both in the evolution of computer systems and in their application to academic and network use. What should Dartmouth's goals be with regard to these fields today? Can Dartmouth continue to play a leadership role in these areas, and if so how?
- Does the current computing and information environment adequately support the research activity of the faculty and students? If not, how should we bolster that support?
- How might Dartmouth ensure that computing and information resources are utilized effectively within the curriculum, by faculty and students alike?
- How will the opening of the new library facilities enhance Dartmouth's computer and information environment, and what can be done to ensure that the new Berry-Baker Library enhances the academic environment -- both research and teaching/learning to the maximum extent possible?
The committee should maintain communication with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Dean of the College, and the Provost, who will be responsible for preparing the final NEASC report. The committee is to complete its report for submission to the Office of the Provost by June 1, 1999. It is expected that the committee will meet with the NEASC visiting team in October 1999.
