Accelerated Language Programs

Arrival and Departure Times
Our programs begin with participants arriving between 1:00-4:00 p.m. on the first day to register and join one of our professors for a placement interview. Classes conclude on the morning of the final day, followed by a graduation ceremony and farewell luncheon ending by 1:30 p.m. The Rassias Foundation staff can help you with suggestions regarding transportation to and from Hanover. We have listed some options on our Directions to Hanover page.

Dormitory Housing
Participants may choose to stay in the dormitories, which are conveniently located within walking distance to all ALPs activities. The dormitories for ALPs XXVII (2008) are air conditioned. The majority of the rooms are singles, with a limited number of doubles available. Bedrooms are individually keyed to ensure privacy, and full bathrooms are shared by two to four participants. Each room is equipped with a telephone (local & calling card access), Ethernet and modem ports. Bed and bath linens are provided. Rooms are available for early arrivals or late departures. The rooms are also available during the period between sessions for those wishing to attend both (some restrictions apply; see enrollment form for details). Charges for additional lodging will be added.

Local Hotels
Hotel rooms in the area should be reserved in advance of the program. Please visit our Lodging in Hanover information page for further housing alternatives.

Food
Participants dine with their fellow students and faculty to focus on applying their newly acquired language skills in comfortable surroundings. Master and Assistant Teachers eat with students to facilitate conversation in the target language. Meals are catered by the 4-star Hanover Inn Restaurant and generally follow the international themes of the languages studied that session. Not only do meals provide ample opportunity for conversational practice; they are often enhanced by group entertainment. Students display their knowledge of the target culture through rousing song, dance, skits and even poetry!

College Course Credit
Joel Goldfield, Dartmouth '76, has been an ALPs MT for 20 years and continues to run the ALPs for college credit program. We are privileged to have this arrangement through Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. Please contact Joel Goldfield in the University College (Continuing Education) at Fairfield at 203-254-4000 x2304), or by e-mail at joel@cs.fairfield.edu for more information on course credit for the French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish ALPs.
