The Hanover Area

Hanover is a rural town of eight thousand people. Located on the Connecticut River roughly halfway between the major cities of Boston and Montreal, Hanover has a certain charm of its own. As the home of Dartmouth College, a member of the prestigious Ivy League group of American universities, Hanover is a college town. Approximately 5000 graduate and undergraduate students attend Dartmouth from September to June. The college and its students bring many cultural activities and resources to the area. The weather is beautiful in the fall, brisk in the winter, and muddy in the spring. People participate in year-round outdoor athletics from skiing on the nearby Dartmouth Skiway to canoeing on the Connecticut.

In summer, particularly, Hanover is a great place to be. The temperatures are moderate; the skies are blue; and, for once, all the flowers are blooming.. Being right on the river and in such pristine nature opens up a variety of summer outdoors activities. Although Dartmouth College is in session, there are only sophomores on campus. There is just enough activity to keep the place lively and yet small enough to give the summer term a "summer camp"-like feel to it.
