Quote tense

For quotes in news releases and in all publications, use the present tense says, reserving the past tense said only for historic (i.e. when the speaker is not alive) references.

  • "Mathematics is my life," says Dan Rockmore, professor of mathematics.
  • "Computers should be simple," said John Kemeny.
