DCPDA Bi-annual Surveys
The purpose of these surveys is to:
- Acquire detailed demographics of the postdoctoral population employed by Dartmouth, including age, salary range, gender, citizenship status, and years of postdoctoral experience.
- Assess the overall postdoctoral training experience, including obtaining information on the types of training modules/programs postdocs need to enhance their experience at Dartmouth.
- Assess the job outlook for postdocs at Dartmouth, including their perceived chances of advancing in their profession and types of jobs they are currently interested in or actively pursuing.
- Determine whether there are currently any major issues amongst the general postdoctoral population in regards to the postdoctoral/mentor relationship.
- Determine whether postdocs are aware of the resources available to them and to assess the postdoctoral population's thoughts in regards to various types of personal issues or concerns that could ultimately affect the overall performance of postdocs while at Dartmouth.

This survey was designed to:
- Assess the need for a postdoctoral association at Dartmouth College, including the percentage of postdocs willing to participate in such an organization.
- Determine the training/social needs for postdocs in order to support their professional development and enhance their overall training experience at Dartmouth College.
The results were presented to various administrative officials, resulting in collaboration between the postdoctoral association's founders and the provost office to organize and finance an association for postdocs at Dartmouth College.
2008 Annual Postdoc Survey #2. The results of this survey were presented to Ron Taylor, a member of the DMS strategic planning committee. The purpose of this group is to "build a culture of collaboration, collegiality, communication and empowerment so as to select the best, retain the best and to help them grow in their careers by providing the support & resources they need".This group is vested in the interests of postdocs and the issues we deal with on a day-to-day basis. The strategic planning committee will then present these issues to Dartmouth's board of trustees. The impact of this survey is to be determined.
