Footnotes [see English for footnote numbers]:
1. The phrase may be found in several passages of the Tanakh (Jewish Bible). The one
referenced here is most likely from Job 1:1. It is an unusual reference because normally, only the
preceding phrases (A pure, morally upright, God-fearing man (Job 1:1) is placed on the matzevah.
Here, the additional phrase that follows, - “and he turned from evil” is included. The same
phrase may also be found in Job 2:3 where God describes Job in the same fashion as found in Job 1:1 to
Satan.
2. The Hebrew phrase of , that appears on the fourth line may be found at Isaiah 38:10 and is a
reference to King Hezekiah who was ill at the time and thought he was to die. The Soncino CD-Rom
renders it in the noontime of my days. Hezekiah eventually recovers.
3. There is a Stayanov, Ukraine which has a current a population for a 7km radius of approximately 4500.
