Re: International Office - OPAL Reorganization Announcement

We are pleased to announce that, effective August 1, Steve Silver will join the Office of Pluralism and Leadership as Director of International Student Programs and Robin Catmur will become Acting Director of the Office of Visa and Immigration Services (previously known as the International Office). This restructuring of responsibilities will allow Dartmouth to be more effective in supporting international students.

Since 2000, Steve has served as Director of the International Office, where his work has focused on supporting the academic and social adjustment of international students and developing and implementing programs that support international student success and promote intercultural awareness within the Dartmouth community. This work has included directing international student orientation, managing Brewster International House, supporting the annual visit by citizens from Nihonmatsu, Japan, and supporting international student organizations' efforts, among other activities. In moving to OPAL, Steve will continue to provide these services -- thereby complementing OPAL's mission of providing cultural enrichment and leadership development -- and work in partnership with the other student advisers who comprise the OPAL team.

Prior to joining the International Office, Steve served as a VISTA volunteer and worked in admissions at Clarkson University, Lafayette College, and Dartmouth. He holds a B.A. degree cum laude with high honors in history from Colgate University and an M.A. in Education from George Washington University.

The International Office, under the leadership of Acting Director Robin Catmur, will continue to handle visa and immigration casework for Dartmouth students, scholars, faculty, and staff. Robin has held positions with the International Office since 2000, serving as Associate Director since 2005. Previously, she served as a program coordinator and international student advisor at Colby-Sawyer College. She is the Regulatory Ombudsperson for the Association of International Educators, New England Region, and chair of the organization's Government Regulatory Advisory Committee. Robin holds a B.A. degree in International Development from the University of California, Davis and a Masters in Globalization Studies from Dartmouth. We are grateful to Robin for her willingness to take on this new assignment.

To make clear that programming activities for international students and scholars will henceforth be centered within OPAL, the International Office has been re-named the Office of Visa and Immigration Services.

Please join us in congratulating Steve and Robin on their new appointments.
