From: Barry Scherr, Provost

To: President's Administrative Forum

I am pleased to announce that Michael Burton will be the new Director of the University Press of New England (UPNE), effective November 1 of this year. Since June 2006, he has served as UPNE's interim director, overseeing all parts of the operation. Based at Dartmouth, UPNE, as many of you know, is supported by a consortium of schools: Brandeis University, Dartmouth College, the University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Tufts University and University of Vermont.

Mike brings years of publishing and printing experience to the job. He has been UPNE's production director since 1993, with responsibility for seeing each book all the way through the publishing process, from receipt of manuscript until the appearance of the bound volume. Before that, he was the production director at Princeton University Press. He has also served as production manager at the University of Alabama Press, and he held the same title at Memphis University Press. He has worked at numerous print production companies, including Wimmer Brothers, Inc. and Plough Printing, both in Memphis.

During his time as interim director Mike has done an excellent job, and I very much look forward to working with him as UPNE builds on its past successes.
