From: John Gratiot, Associate Vice President for FO&M
To the Dartmouth Campus
You will have noticed a problem this morning with the water pressure on
campus.
Over the weekend, the computers at the water treatment plant, which is
jointly owned by the town of Hanover and the College, shutdown, which in turn
shut down the water pumps. Although the computers and pumps are now up and
running, we continue to have low water pressure.
Please conserve water as much as possible this morning as the water company
works to correct the problem. You will notice that the water is brown (just as
it is when the town flushes the system) - it is nonetheless safe to use
although you may prefer to drink bottled water. You will also notice that many
bathrooms are without water pressure and that the toilets will not flush.
Toilets with automatic flushable systems are not working. FO&M plumbers are
working to fix them. The heating and power systems are working. If you are
aware of any stuck toilets that are running continuously, please call FO&M
at 646-2508.
The folks at the water treatment plant expect to have this problem resolved
by midday. They are trying to refill the holding tanks to increase the
pressure. In the meantime, we thank you for your cooperation.
