From: William Walker, Vice President for Public Affairs
To: President's Administrative Forum
I am delighted to announce that, after a comprehensive national search, I have selected E.J. Kiefer to be the College's new Director of Conferences and Special Events, effective December 1.
Most of you already know E.J. in his role as Events Manager in the Office of Conferences and Special Events. As Director, E.J. will lead the full C&SE staff, and will oversee the office's production of the College's major events, including Commencement, Convocation, the College's Martin Luther King celebration, conferences and camps, and other special events. This is a critical appointment for the Office of Public Affairs in our institutional advancement role and for the College as a whole, and I am pleased that E.J. has accepted this new responsibility.
In his new role, E.J. succeeds Ann Munves Malenka '80, who has served as Director since 1997. As many of you know, Ann will be shifting her responsibilities within Public Affairs, becoming the division's first Director of Administration and Special Projects. Ann will also begin her new responsibilities on December 1.
I am very grateful to the search committee for conducting a highly effective and efficient process. The group identified an exceptionally strong pool of candidates, conducted a rigorous interview and information-gathering process, and gave me wise advice and counsel leading to this decision. I extend my thanks to committee Chair Rick Adams, Director of Publications; Nels Armstrong, Special Assistant to the President; Cheryl Reynolds, Executive Director of the Office of the President and Secretary to the Board of Trustees; and Janet Terp, Senior Assistant to the Dean of the Faculty.
Please join me in congratulating E.J. on his appointment and his new responsibilities.
