I am very pleased that Provost Barry Scherr has agreed to chair the search
committee for the Dean of the College. The other members of the committee are
Professors Catherine Cramer, Mary Lou Guerinot, and Andrew Samwick,
administrators Nels Armstrong, Sandy Spiegel, and Holly Sateia, alumnus John
Engelman '68, the president of student assembly Tim Andreadis '07, and two
additional students still to be appointed. Provost Scherr will convene the
committee as soon as possible, and he hopes to conclude the search by the end
of the fall term or early in the winter. I know that he will look for
opportunities to consult broadly as we seek to make the strongest possible
appointment to this important post
