Interim President Carol L. Folt's election as chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill means that she will not return to her previous role as Dartmouth's provost. I am writing today to inform you that Dartmouth is beginning a search to fill this important position.
N. Bruce Duthu, the Samson Occom Professor of Native American Studies, has agreed to chair the advisory committee leading the search. The firm Isaacson, Miller will support the committee as the search consultants throughout the process.
During the search, Martin N. Wybourne has agreed to continue to serve as interim provost, a position he has held with distinction for the past year. The vice provost for research and the Francis and Mildred Sears Professor of Physics, Martin has worked in the Provost's Office since 2004, following three years as associate dean of the faculty for the sciences. I'm looking forward to working with Martin, whose deep understanding of Dartmouth's academic and research enterprise will continue to serve us well.
In addition to Professor Duthu, the advisory search committee members are:
