Typical Year for Princess Layout
The Fall
The main goal of fall practices is to teach the sport and introduce freshmen and new players to the Dartmouth Ultimate community. Mondays and Wednesday practices are centered around teaching sessions, drills and scrimmages. Friday practices are often more relaxed - we’ll have co-ed scrimmages and lots of hanging out. Newbies- please come out and play as much or as little as you can. We understand that you want to try out a little bit of everything that Dartmouth has to offer and you should!
Throughout the fall we usually travel to 2-3 tournaments in the Northeast and host several tournaments of our own. We strongly encourage new players to come to tournaments with us. They are a great way to get a real sense of the game and to get to know your teammates (and they're fun!!).
Wintertime
As playing outdoors in Hanover becomes less and less appealing and more and more impossible the Ultimate team moves into the gym to focus on conditioning and to prepare for the upcoming spring season.
Within Princess Layout there is an A team and a B team (affectionately, Princess B-ride).
The B team plays lots of great ultimate throughout the winter and spring, improving individual skills and growing as a team. B-riders have a ridiculously good time and usually will win the tournament party.
The A team plays at a nationally competitive level and requires a big commitment from its players throughout the winter and spring (the main season). Tryouts for the A team will most likely occur during the first half of the winter term.
Throughout the term we will have both combined and separate A and B team practices and conditioning sessions.
During the winter term the team will most likely attend 1-2 tournaments. For the past couple of years the A team has traveled to Las Vegas for a long weekend of competitive ultimate, well-needed sunshine, and debauchery.
***SPRING***
***BREAK***
Spring break is the highlight of the year. The entire team (men and women, A and B, upwards of 90 people) travels together down south to play in tournaments, hang out in our rented beach house, get some Vitamin D, and have an incredible time together.
The Spring Season
During the spring B-ride plays in several tournaments along the East Coast and participates in the College Series. The B team conducts practices three days a week. There will also be joint A and B team practices throughout the season for fun and for the developmental benefit of both teams.
The spring is the A team’s competitive season. Starting with spring break and ending in May the team will compete in 6-7 tournaments. Practices are intense, mandatory and frequent, but incredibly rewarding, exciting and fun. You will never see a team work so incredibly hard and have as much fun as we do at the same time. We have a very experienced and truly invaluable coach (hi Mikey!) who helps us develop our strategy and skills throughout the year however, the team is self-motivated: all conditioning and time commitments are made by the team and accounted for by the team. The main goal of the spring is success in the College Series: Sectionals, Regionals, and Nationals.
