Testing your PKI Installation
This page allows you to test your PKI installation to verify that you can connect to a PKI protected web site with a certificate issued by Dartmouth College. (The configuration instructions refer to the Mozilla browser.)
Using the Mozilla browser, select the "Preferences" item on the "Edit" menu.
Click on the arrow next to "Privacy & Security" and then click on "Certificates" in the expanded list.
Click on the "Manage Certificates" button and your certificate name should appear under the "Your Certificates" tab. Select the certificate with your name, click the view button to display the certificate contents and verify that it was imported correctly.
Using the Mozilla browser, select the "Preferences" item on the "Edit" menu.
Click on the arrow next to "Privacy & Security" and then click on "Certificates" in the expanded list.

In the preferences list click on "Master Passwords" under "Privacy & Security" and under the "...will ask for your Master Password" section click on the "Every time it is needed" radio button.
With the Mozilla Browser, you should next see the dialog "User Identification Request". Select your Dartmouth certificate in the pulldown menu, check details displayed to verify the correct one has been chosen, click OK to use it.
Next you'll see the dialog to enter the password for your "Software Security Device"
Enter your password and click OK.
If your testing was successful, you will be taken to a Web page that contains information that looks like the image below:

If you don't see a page like the above image, then something went wrong with the test. It is most likely that some part of your installation is misconfigured. Recheck the instructions above.
It is also possible that your software installation is corrupted. To correct the problem it will be necessary to re-install the software. Check that you have the latest copy of the web browser for your operating system. Once you've downloaded the software from the vendor, run the install program and restarted your computer, come back to this page and run through the testing steps again.
