Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Astronomy

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Dartmouth College invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in the field of astronomy to begin in July, 2009. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous research program involving undergraduate and graduate students, and to have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The Department of Physics and Astronomy has 17 faculty members and approximately 45 PhD students, with research interests in condensed matter physics, space physics, cosmology, and astronomy. We are seeking candidates who will enhance and complement our existing research programs and utilize the MDM and SALT observatories. Current astronomy research at Dartmouth is in the fields of stellar evolution, stellar populations, close binary stars, supernova, supernova remnants, galaxy populations, galaxy dynamics and astrometry. Dartmouth has 25% share of the 2.4m and 1.3m MDM telescopes on Kitt Peak and a 9% share of the 10m Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) in South Africa. A PhD and post-doctoral experience in astronomy or astrophysics is required along with a strong record of published research.
