Connect the electroscope to the plates of the capacitor, and charge the electroscope using the electrophorus. Move the plates of the capacitor closer together and see the electroscope leaves close. Put the pane of glass (dielectric) between the two plates and see the electroscope leaves close. These two procedures increase capacitance, and thus decrease voltage by V=Q/C, causing the leaves to close.
