Spacer The purposes of this lab are:

  1. to learn what a shift register is and how to construct one from flip-flops;

  2. to learn what a counter is and how to use it to construct a divide-by-N circuit; and

  3. to become familiar with the 555 timer (one slot) and to build an oscillator with it.

2 multimeters
2 DC power supplies
1 signal generator
1 breadboard with power connectors
   CMOS digital ICs;
    (4040 counter, 4081 quad AND, 4013 dual flip-flop, 555 monostable multivibrator)
   red and black banana leads
   wire
   assorted resistors
   assorted capacitors
   bags of LEDs
