Pediatric
Education Overview

|
If you are an international student and wish to sign up for a subinternship
or elective in Pediatrics, you must meet the following criteria.
- You must be enrolled in a medical school accredited
by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). Students from
non-LCME accredited institutions may be considered for elective participation
with prior written approval by the Pediatrics Department at Dartmouth
Medical School (DMS).
- You must be fully matriculated and in good standing
as verified by the dean's office of your medical school at the time
you take the elective at DMS.
- You must have successfully completed all prerequisite
required clinical clerkships before taking the elective at DMS.
- You must come with provisions for personal health and
liability insurance.
- You must have proof of these immunizations: tuberculin
skin test (plus a chest X-ray, if positive), rubella, mumps, hepatitis
(or signed waiver that you've received the Hep B vaccination), diphtheria/tetanus,
polio, rubeola and varicella (chicken pox). DMS also must know whether
you have had chicken pox. Students with no known history of chicken
pox or shingles must go to Dick's House on arrival to receive a varicella
antibody titer and/or vaccine before working with patients. It is strongly
recommended that all students receive an annual flu vaccine.
- You must have a good knowledge of the English language.
- You must have written proof of financial support. If
you designate personal funds as your primary source of support, you
must provide a bank statement (converted to U.S. dollars) reflecting
evidence of having a minimum of $1,050 for every month you will be studying
at DMS. This figure includes monthly room and board and personal expenses.
It does not include costs for purchasing a laptop computer, liability
and health insurance, and books and supplies.
