The student sees patients with a broad range of endocrine disorders, including growth failure, diabetes and thyroid dysfunction; and completes two detailed case write-ups with thorough scientific discussion of the differential diagnoses.

When offered: Throughout the year

Credit units: 4

Goals and objectives:

  • Obtain an overview of the impact of endocrine disease on growth and development in children.
  • Learn to recognize early presentation of growth disease, treatment options and outcomes.

Method of instruction: The student attends clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 four days a week either at DHMC, the Hitchcock Clinic or in Bedford. The student is not expected to see every patient in clinic, but will see selected, representative cases. There are daily discussions of patients seen. The student has one day a week for reading.

Method of student evaluation: Evaluation is based on the student's clinical skills, interactive patient care and written materials.
