The Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC) is a 5-story general medical and surgical hospital and referral center serving the various Indian tribes in the area, primarily Navajo, but also Zuni, Apache and Pueblo. GIMC serves an overall population of approximately 150,000 including a primary care population of about 31,000. GIMC is equipped to provide all types of medical and surgical care except neurosurgery and open heart surgery. GIMC presently operates as a 128-bed hospital with the lower two floors serving as an Ambulatory Care area. There is a total staff of 800 including 70 physicians, 160 nurses, 10 pharmacists, 10 dentists, medical social workers, physical/occupational/speech therapists, health educators, dietitians and other essential health care staff. Pediatric admissions to GIMC tend to be more "routine" than at our other teaching sites, with less emphasis on highly specialized care. This is viewed as one of the significant positive aspects of GIMC as a teaching site. Click here to go to the Gallup Indian Medical Center website. Children's
