On behalf of the Department of Pediatrics Faculty
and the Pediatric Residents, I would like to welcome students to the courses
and other educational opportunities offered throughout your four years at
DMS. Training in Pediatrics may lead to a rewarding career in many
disciplines including primary care, subspecialty pediatrics, research, and
public health. In addition to the traditional medical subspecialties like
cardiology and infectious diseases, Pediatrics offers specialization in the
areas of neonatology, adolescent medicine, and behavior and development. Many
students are attracted to our field from the enjoyment and gratification that
comes from working with infants, children and adolescents and their families,
and from the spirit of collegiality found among health professionals who work
with children. I would like to extend an invitation to all
students considering a career in Pediatrics to join the Pediatrics Interest
Group. This is an informal group that meets several times yearly. While the
major purpose is to introduce first- and second-year students to the field of
Pediatrics, we welcome the participation of all DMS students. Please contact Dr. Todd Poret for
more information. Students who have an interest in Pediatrics should
feel free to meet with me at any stage in their medical education. Please
contact Ms. Eleni Panagoulis
or Ms. Olivia Chapman at 653-6042 to set up a convenient time, or e-mail me
at john.modlin@dartmouth.edu. John F. Modlin, M.D.
