In this meeting progress in all projects and cores was covered in some detail.

Future meetings may only cover selected projects and cores.

Project 1: (Ed Maytin/Bernhard Ortel)

Project 2: (Norm Nishioka/Bill Puricelli)

Project 3: (Brian Pogue)

Project 4: (Tayyaba Hasan, Paal Selbo & Nicolas Solban)

Core B: (Bernhard Ortel)

Core C: (Michael Hamblin, Lothar Lilge, Yuchiao Chang)

December 17, 2002

Attended: Tayyaba Hasan, Brian Pogue, Bernhard Ortel, Michael Hamblin, Bin Chen, Suzanne Harvey (to take minutes)

Brief progress reports were received on Project 1 (Bernhard Ortel), Project 2. First patient was treated for Barrett's esophagus, Project 4 (Tayyaba Hasan), Core B (Bernhard Ortel), Core C (Michael Hamblin), Project 3 was covered in detail (Brian Pogue, Bin Chen)

There are three papers submitted.

There are four studies going on:

  1. The comparison of subcutaneous and orthotopic MatLyLu tumors (Xiadong's project last summer). The subcutaneous is problematic in this project - when they open the tumor it bleeds all over and makes comparisons difficult.
  2. The comparison of MatLyLu and MatLyLu-G (Bin Chen's project).
  3. The comparison of Cellular and Vascular Treatments (also Bin Chen's project).
  4. Photosensitizers and oxygen model in MatLyLu (Brian Pogue's project).

March 5, 2003

Attended: Tayyaba Hasan, Brian Pogue, (via conference call) Bernhard Ortel, Michael Hamblin, Edward Maytin (via conference call), Paal Selbo, Nicholas Solban, Yuchiao Chang, Irene Georgakoudi, Janice Brissette, Bill Rice, Marietta Ambrose, Sanjay Anand, Suzanne Harvey (to take minutes)

Brief progress reports were given for: Project 2, Project 3, Project 4, Core C

Core B: has recruited Irene Georgakoudi: who is designing a microscope system that allows sensitizer distribution in vivo both in animals and in tissues at video rate.

Project 1 was covered in detail (Ed Maytin & Bernhard Ortel):

  1. Progress made looking at CPO gene promoter.
  2. CPO protein in vitro.

Future directions: 2 questions:

  1. keratinocyte-specific transcription factors interact with C/EBP beta.
  2. potential transciption factor binding sites such as SP1-like, CPRE, GATA, CACCC, and other undiscovered sites down regulate CPO promoter in transient transfection experiments?
