Web Oversight Committee Charge

Dartmouth's World Wide Web site continues to evolve as one of the College's primary channels of communication: as an information resource, as a teaching tool and as a way of presenting the College to the world. From the beginning of Dartmouth's presence on the Web, it has strived for a site that presents the College as a vital, robust, world-class institution, and one that communicates effectively with the College’s various internal and external constituent groups. Dartmouth also seeks to maintain a Web presence that is technologically current, and that demonstrates its status as a leading institution of higher learning and a leader in the use of information technology resources.

In the past, the management of the Web has been handled through a partnership involving several offices whose communications with constituents increasingly rely on the Web as a primary tool. As one element of a more coordinated approach to College-wide communications, the Office of Public Affairs has assumed responsibility for the management of the College’s major World Wide Web sites. In order to fully represent the interests of the many units that rely on Web-based communications, a Web Oversight Committee will guide the creation and implementation of our Web strategy.

The Committee will meet once per term, and will include institution-wide representation including faculty, administration, staff and undergraduate and graduate students. (See committee list.)

The Web Oversight Committee will review issues related to the College’s Web presence, including:

  • Establishment and oversight of policies governing Dartmouth’s Web site.
  • Strategic decisions with regard to core messages and primary audiences.
  • Establishment of priorities for Web site development and improvement.
  • Current issues in Web communications and how those issues relate to Dartmouth’s Web presence.
