Proposal Review in the OSP

As noted above, each proposal is reviewed by staff in the OSP. The required pieces of the proposal (as outlined below) should be delivered to the OSP at least seven (7) working days prior to the sponsor submission deadline. Staff in the OSP review the proposal, looking for assurance that it complies with federal regulations, and College policies and procedures, and that the proposal adheres to the requirements/guidelines of the funding agency. The two days requested by Office of Sponsored Projects provides sufficient time to ensure that all other College approvals are in order and that there is sufficient time to make any needed changes to the proposal. The OSP and the Principal Investigator share the responsibility of assuring that the submitted proposal is complete and accurate. To expedite this review, the following items , completed and signed by the appropriate officials, need to be included when the proposal is submitted to the OSP:

  1. Proposal Routing Form (with all necessary signatures)
  2. Proposal Cover Page
  3. Abstract
  4. Budget Form(s)
  5. Budget Justification

Applicable Certifications

  1. Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects Checklist
  2. Animal Subjects Protocol Approval Letter
  3. Human Subjects Protocol Approval Letter
  4. Standard Certifications: Lobbying, Drug-free Workplace, etc.

Additional Information

  1. Subcontracts: Indicate if there are any subcontracts included in the proposed budget.
  2. Internal Cost-Sharing: When cost-sharing is required, the source, type, and amount of funds should be identified with the signatory approval of the appropriate dean.
  3. External Matching Funds: The Development Office should review the proposal if they are responsible for raising external matching funds.
  4. Proposals to Foundations requiring institutional clearance prior to submission will be screened for that clearance.
