NIH Pathway to Independence (PI) Award (K99/R00)

NIH Pathway to Independence (PI) Award (K99/R00)

"This initiative will develop and implement a new Pathway to Independence Award Program (PI) designed to facilitate receiving an R01 award earlier in an investigator's research career. The primary, long-term goal of the PI Award Program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented, NIH-supported independent investigators."

Up to 5 years of support are available: 1-2 years of mentored, post-doctoral research, followed by 3 years as an independent researcher, contingent on obtaining an independent research position. This opportunity is available to individuals with numerous clinical and research doctoral degrees.

There are many eligibility criteria; full information may be found at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-06-133.html

The first deadline is April 7, 2006, and standard NIH receipt dates thereafter.
