Digital Converter Boxes

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I get a digital converter box?
A. Go to the Computer Store located on the second floor of Baker/Berry.  You will sign a rental agreement for the converter box.

Q.  How do I pay to rent this converter box?
A.  It is $10/month and you can charge it to Da$h, credit card, cash, or check.

Q.  What if I have one of the original "Amino" converter boxes?
A.  This must be returned to the Computer store where you will receive a credit for your deposit as long as it is working and in good condition.  You will then need to sign up for the $10/month rental program and get a new converter box.

Q.  Why can't I just keep my old Amino converter box?
A.  The new converter boxes work with MPEG 4, while the older Amino box works with MPEG 2.  The entire system is converting to the MPEG 4 format and we must return the older boxes in order to get new replacement boxes.  Dartmouth will no longer support the older converter boxes, nor do the older Amino boxes support "Closed Captioning."
