The Purchase Prize helped me make a number of significant sales before graduating. As a result, it catalyzed a string of experiences after graduation. I believe the aggregate effect of these experiences is my eventual return to the core of the art world sometime soon. I believe this because I see an element of my art in all that I do.
After receiving the Purchase Prize, I went on to start a sportswear design company, got an MFA, and an MBA, did corporate finance in a Fortune 500 company for a while, founded a dotcom, and headed back to my home country--Nigeria--to become involved in developing the Internet/telecom industry there.
My advice to graduating class: Don't trap yourself in a uni-dimensional world. Dartmouth equips you to tackle life from several dimensions. The more of dimensions you experience, the better. The further you can go, the smarter. And the more lives you touch, the more accomplished you will be. Also, have faith in the ubiquity of your art for there is a little bit of that art in everything you dream, see, or do.
