Currently, I am working on an MSc in Gender Studies from the London School of Economics. Last year, however, I worked as an intern in the Dartmouth Studio Art Department.

It is always empowering to have a creative work recognized. In that respect, the purchase prize has encouraged me to continue working on artistic and creative endeavors, even though my main academic focus has shifted.

In an academic context, I would encourage students of art and of any other subject to look beyond their area of focus for critical influences and ideological challenges. It can become all too easy to get bogged down in the discourse of a particular discipline, to the point where other debates or forms of expression no longer seem valuable. To use my own experience as an example, I feel that upon completing my course in Gender Studies, and having focused on Human Rights issues for a year, I may return to photography but with a vastly different perspective.
