Housing for Medical /Disability Related Needs
Individuals who require housing for medical or disability related needs may
be exempt from the regular assignment process. To apply for special housing, a
student must submit their housing application on BannerStudent by the relevant
deadline for winter, spring and summer term and answer the questions regarding
special housing. The fall application is a paper form available in the forms section
of the ORL website. The medical care provider form, filled out by
their physician (not a family member), along with any appropriate documentation
must be submitted to the Undergraduate Housing Office by the relevant housing
application deadline. The medical care provider form is available in the forms section
of the ORL website.
CFS and Undergraduate Society Housing
The Office of Residential Life coordinates the housing assignments for the
coed, fraternity, sorority (CFS) and undergraduate society (UGS) houses.
Students can live in College-recognized CFS houses beginning in the winter term
of their sophomore year, and in undergraduate society houses beginning in the
fall term of their sophomore year.
Students who are interested in living in a social organization house must
complete a CFS/UGS Contract Rider (available in the forms section
of the ORL website) and submit it to the organization’s housing coordinator
before the social organization housing deadline for the appropriate term. The
housing coordinator will assign the spaces and provide our office with the
contracts and room assignments. Room assignments may change depending on the
housing policies of individual organizations.

If you wish to live in the residence halls in the event there is not room
for you in your house for winter, spring or summer terms, you must complete the
web-based housing application on BannerStudent by the
appropriate deadline. Students with a CFS/UGS contract on file for a given term
are not eligible for housing through the regular housing process for that
term.
Any leave term student living in a CFS or UGS house must participate in a
College dining plan at a level no lower than the “Mini Green.”
Affinity Programs
Affinity programs are residentially based, educationally purposeful living
opportunities that center on a self-defined academic or special interest
programmatic focus. Each program strives to provide a living-learning
experience for residents that is unique in that resident students commit to a
specified degree of involvement. Students apply to participate in these
smaller, learning-based communities which can be housed in a section of a
traditional residence hall or in a free-standing house.
Affinity programs are open to upperclass students by application. Students
who are interested in living in an affinity program must apply online before
the application deadline for the appropriate term. If accepted to the program,
the student must complete an Affinity Program Contract Rider and submit it to
the program’s housing coordinator. All programs use a common online application.

The program’s housing coordinator determines program eligibility and makes
all housing assignments in the living unit. The names of approved applicants
are then submitted to the Office of Residential Life for verification of
D-plan, housing eligibility, and notification once the assignments have been
finalized. Any student with an approved Affinity Program Contract Rider on file
for a given term will not be eligible for housing through the regular
assignment process for that term. Please note that all affinity programs are
smoke free and the Chinese Language House, Cutter/Shabazz, La Casa, LALACS, and
Native American House are substance free.
Any leave term student living in an affinity program must participate in a
College dining plan at a level no lower than the “Mini Green.”
For more information about affinity programs, visit the Affinity
Programs page under "Residential Communities."
Undergraduate Housing Relocation Policy for Students with Disabilities
Dartmouth College is committed to ensuring that our residential programs are
readily accessible to and usable by students with disabilities. To the extent
that student housing or residential programs may not be readily accessible,
Dartmouth College will make reasonable efforts to enable students with
disabilities to participate in and receive the benefits of Dartmouth
residential programs. Those efforts may include relocation of the program,
redesign of equipment, reassignment of programs or services to alternative
sites, alteration of existing facilities or other reasonable methods which make
the residential programs and activities accessible, under the
circumstances.
Individuals seeking accommodations in order to participate in residential
programs are encouraged to provide as much advance notice as possible, but in
any event, a minimum of six months. Individuals with disabilities requiring
accommodations or information on accessibility should contact Rachael
Class-Giguere, director of undergraduate housing, at (603) 646-3093 or rkcg@dartmouth.edu.
Leave Term Housing
Students who wish to live on campus in order to do research or work on
campus (30 hours or more per week), are eligible to apply for leave term
housing. Students who apply for leave term housing must fill out the
appropriate section of the BannerStudent online application by the relevant
deadline and provide written verification of College employment or College
related activity to the Undergraduate Housing Office.
On-time leave term housing applications are processed after applications
from all on-time enrolled applicants, if space permits. Fall leave term
applications will be accepted this year, however we do not anticipate having
the space available to house many, if any leave term students this fall due to
increased enrollment and decreased capacity. If possible, leave term
student applicants will be housed after all on-time waitlist students.
Any resulting assignments will be posted on BannerStudent no earlier than
mid to late August.
Leave Term Applications Deadlines and Information
Any leave term student living in housing coordinated by the Office of
Residential Life must participate in a College dining plan at a level no lower
than the “Mini Green.”
Off-Campus Housing Information
If you are interested in living off campus, the Dartmouth Real
Estate Office has information on properties owned by Dartmouth and
listings of rental options from area landlords. For more information, contact
the office at (603) 646-2170 or by blitz, or visit their web
site.
The College also has a booklet with helpful tips for working with landlords,
understanding leases, and choosing an apartment. This booklet is available at
Collis, Housing Programs, the Undergraduate Housing Office and online.
Local “off-campus” housing for Dartmouth undergraduates is comprised of any
residential facility not coordinated by the Office of Residential Life,
including any residence not in the town of Hanover, or any house or apartment
in Hanover which by zoning code allows no more than three non related persons
to be in residence.
