Red Rolfe Field Renovation : : Progress and Notifications

Construction Update, September 26, 2008

Concrete footings and foundation walls are underway for both the bleacher structure and the dugouts. The sidewalk along South Park Street is approximately 80% constructed. Most perimeter fence posts and curbing are now in place. Work will continue on the concrete bleacher foundation and footings/foundations for the brick partition walls. Concrete work for the dugouts and backstop wall will also take place this week.

Bleacher and turf delivery are scheduled for early and mid-October, respectively.

Please note that the DCAD parking area behind Alumni Gym will be blocked off in the half-circle portion while the bleachers are being constructed, starting around October 6. Bleacher installation should take about a month.

Construction Update, July 18, 2008

The site has been cleared, and with the sanitary sewer line replaced, grading is now being performed to bring the site up to subgrade. Drainage piping installation will begin shortly along with the stone base for the field. The concrete perimeter curb at the fence line construction will commence once grading is complete. Concrete work for dugouts and bleacher footings is scheduled to take place in August.

All work is currently taking place within the site boundary. In near future, curb and sidewalk work along South Park Street will begin, which will require pedestrian control measures. Further notification of these measures will precede the beginning of this work.

Construction Update, June 25, 2008

The pine trees removed along Park Street were in poor health and have been in decline for several years. The Town of Hanover required widening of the road to the west of Park Street in order to accommodate two bike lanes, curbing, a grass strip and sidewalk. These street improvements represent a total increased width of 18'-6" and therefore required removal of the trees.

The project includes 15 new elm trees (two varieties of elms) that will line the west edge of Park Street for the full length of the baseball field. This will increase the length of tree-lined street with a species that is consistent with both the Town and College Master Plans and appropriate for the harsh environment adjacent to a roadway.

The Town arborist and adjacent neighbors were consulted during the development of this project.

Construction Update, June 12, 2008

The topsoil and the infield are in the process of being removed. Pine trees along Park Street will be taken down by the end of the day today, and demolition of the old fence is also underway.

Pedestrian safety controls will be in place for removal of large trees today. No further planned road or sidewalk closures are anticipated at this point.
