After a 1999 decision to expand the Tuck student body, the corresponding growth in faculty and administrative staff has put significant pressure on the current Tuck facilities. The Living and Learning Complex is planned to address the needs for classroom and study space, as well as new living space. The new living space will allow Tuck to renovate the Buchanan dormitory and convert bed space to office space in the future.

The design consists of three connected buildings, with residential wings on the east and west, and a classroom building linking them. The new structure will be organized to create an indoor connection with the entire Tuck campus and complete a corresponding outdoor system of courtyards and pathways.

Interior program components are:

  • 85 student residences
  • 2 residential kitchens and laundry rooms
  • 3 classrooms
  • 15 study rooms
  • 2 conference rooms
  • A leadership library
  • A 2-story social room to serve as a gathering space
  • Dining room and kitchen for catered meals
  • A multipurpose recreation lounge
  • Wellness studio for mat-based activities
