Hitchcock Hall is undergoing a full renovation, including exterior and site improvements. Project features include:
- Removal of all asbestos-containing materials and other hazardous materials, including the demolition of all interior partitions
- Create new fire-rated stairways at appropriate locations for safe emergency egress
- Provide full accessibility to persons with disabilities, including installation of an elevator
- Provide new room layouts to meet the density and program objectives of the Office of Residential Life; primarily single- and double-occupancy rooms with suite offerings
- Provide new private and semi-private toilet and shower rooms
- Replace all mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems, including new perimeter radiant heating, and ventilation of toilet/shower rooms and group assembly/lounge spaces
- Insulate the building and install new high-performance window systems
- Provide new millwork, with sensitivity toward the historic qualities of the building
- Install fire suppression (sprinkler) system and new fire alarm system
- Install new site and building perimeter drainage systems
- Remove parking from south lawn and re-plant with grass
- Improve exterior lighting and pedestrian walkways
- Provide emergency power to building electrical systems
- Provide new finishes throughout, including floors, wall, ceiling
- Provide new student kitchen and kitchenette facilities
- Install new windows
- Repair and replace shutters, re-point brick masonry
- Provide new site amenities, including seating and bicycle racks
