The Class of 1953 Commons will provide a dining center for the North Campus
appropriate to the expanding population of that sector of campus. The new
facility will feature:
- Seating in the main dining hall for 250 persons.
- Additional seating for outdoor dining on the south terrace.
- Servery and kitchen support facilities to accommodate 500 meals served per
hour.
- Servery designed to allow either "a la carte" or "fixed price
all-you-can-eat" formats.
- Administrative Offices on the second floor for the Office of Residential
Life.
- Social/ gathering space on the second floor for graduate students.
- Large (750 nasf) Conference/Presentation/Meeting Room, located in the upper
level of the "tower" on the south elevation of the building.
- Open green space on the south side of the building (140' x 170' lawn)
- Modifications to parking lots and roads in the precinct, to provide
efficient access and to minimize parking loss.
- Implementation of sustainable kitchen operations to include extensive
composting, oil reclamation, recycling, and efficient ware washing.
- Adherence to rigorous building performance standards for thermal barriers,
highly efficient mechanical systems and lighting systems.
