Dartmouth News Focus Group
Time: November 6, 2009, from 12 to 1 p.m
Location: HR Conference Room, 7 Lebanon Street, second floor
The Office of Public Affairs is taking on a project to revamp its news site. Our aim is an integrated, effective news vehicle that better serves the entire institution. Members of the Dartmouth Communicators group are all stakeholders in this project, as both creators and consumers of Dartmouth news. For this brown bag, we're asking you to share your insights in a focus group for the project. The session will focus on the questions below:

  • What are some of the main challenges you face as Dartmouth communicators?
  • What communications goals do you want to be more effective in meeting? (In your own area or institution-wide)
  • How might an integrated online news source for the institution serve or support your area?
  • As a consumer of Dartmouth news, how effective do you find the current online presence of Public Affairs news and publications?
  • Which audience(s) should an integrated news source target? The news media? Prospective students? Alumni? The world at large? Students? Faculty and staff? The local community?
  • Do you have any examples or best practices of news sites from peer institutions to share?

About the Dartmouth Communicators Group

The Dartmouth Communicators Group was founded in Fall 2008 to increase collaboration between professional communicators working across the institution: for the College, Dartmouth Medical School, the Thayer School of Engineering, and the Tuck School of Business.

We are the storytellers of Dartmouth. We are art directors, editors, graphic designers, media-relations experts, photographers, podcasters, programmers, reporters, speechwriters, sportscasters, strategic advisors, Twitterers, webmasters, writers, videographers -- and more.

We share best practices, through:

  • Our Ning site (to request an invitation, please email office.of.public.affairs@dartmouth.edu).
  • First-Friday Brown Bag lunches (12N at the HR Training Room at 7 Lebanon Street)
  • Spring and Fall conferences on campus.
