| The Dartmouth College Office of Institutional Research (OIR) exists to:
- supply information to the trustees, senior administrators, and governance
committees that will a) aid in understanding Dartmouth and its place among
institutions of higher education, b) serve as a means for advancing strategic
planning, policy setting, and evaluation, and c) provoke informed conversations
about issues of higher education;
- provide consultation and support to college committees, staff and faculty
regarding the availability, scope, and appropriate use of existing college
data, and the collection of additional information when necessary;
- respond to requests for data from college offices and external requestors
such as other institutions of higher education, government agencies,
researchers, and the media;
- contribute to the development of systems that will lead to the provision of
timely, accurate, and consistent data about the College;
- promote policies and practices that create a campus culture that ensures
the effective and responsible collection and use of institutional data.
- serve as the institutional clearing house for surveys and other reports
provided to external agencies.
- coordinate the institutional surveying of student, faculty, staff, and
alumni populations.
- serve as institutional office of record
- provide consultation on survey design, sampling, and analysis
- administer institutionally mandated surveys of Dartmouth populations
including students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
The office reports to the Provost.
As a dotted line report, Student Affairs Planning, Evaluation
and Research (SAPER) works closely with OIR on research involving
undergraduate students.
