About CFR (including Limited Application Process)

How can the office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) help faculty and staff?

CFR maintains relationships with many foundations and corporations. We can share our direct knowledge of an organization and often can provide information not available elsewhere. We can assist faculty and staff in identifying appropriate prospects, approaching corporations and foundations, helping with proposal development and editing, reporting and stewarding.

If a foundation or corporation is listed on CFR’s Managed Corporation and Foundation Relationships page, we strongly encourage you to consult with CFR staff first before reaching out externally.

What are RFPs and Limited Submission Applications?

Foundations and corporations sometimes issue request for proposals (RFPs) to solicit proposals that directly address specific problems or priorities.

In addition, certain funders require universities to limit the number of applications that will be nominated by the institution (e.g., one application from Dartmouth). The Office of the Provost has developed procedures for responding to such Limited Application RFPs, summarized below:

  • For faculty interested in submitting an internal proposal for the Provost’s Office for consideration, send the following pre-application materials by the internal deadline to limitedfunding@dartmouth.edu:
    • Overview/abstract of proposal (one page maximum)
    • Total request amount
    • Curriculum vitae (CV)

  • RFP Bulletin  Subscribe to a list or browse foundations and federal agencies’ requests for proposals.
  • Guidestar Access annual tax returns of foundations (990PFs) and public charities (990s), both of which contain a list of annual grants (located near the end of the 990).
