We have a dual channel SMIS console with the capacity to pulse and collect at two frequencies simultaneously. The console has a PC based user interface using Microsoft Windows. The number crunching is done by specific 25MFLOPS DSP boards.
We have a 6cm birdcage coil for protons (can be tuned to fluorine), a 4cm Na birdcage, a 1/2 birdcage proton coil for microimaging, and a series of surface coils purpose built for specific experiments.
Dartmouth is a Macintosh environment and (for those interested) was the site where Basic was developed. Because of this, and because the NMR console is PC based, we have had to network both Macs and PC's. We currently have 4 PC's and 5 Mac's networked to two remote hard-disks, one printer, one tape backup and one optical disk. I wish awards could be given for this feat and we thank Dave Avery for all of his assistance.
SMIS is the acronym for Surrey Medical Imaging Systems, and has Dave Taylor as the Chief Executive. For more information on SMIS call 1-800-USA-SMIS (Boston USA) or 44-1483-506611 (Guildford UK).
